Cleveland, Ohio – Drivers across northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania should prepare for deteriorating travel conditions Friday as snow, gusty winds, and possible snow squalls move through the region ahead of an Arctic front.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Friday morning through early Saturday for Cuyahoga and Geauga counties in Ohio, as well as southern Erie County in Pennsylvania. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected in the Cleveland metro and surrounding suburbs, with slightly higher totals of 3 to 5 inches possible south of Erie. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, leading to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Road conditions are expected to worsen during both the Friday morning and evening commutes. Brief snow squalls or heavier bursts of snow may develop Friday evening as the Arctic front pushes through, potentially dropping visibility to less than a mile in a short period of time.
In northeast Ohio, cities including Cleveland, Chardon, Middlefield, Chesterland, Bainbridge, and South Russell are included in the advisory. In Pennsylvania, impacts extend to communities such as Edinboro, Union City, and Corry. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses could become slick quickly.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and delay unnecessary trips during peak snowfall. Transportation officials recommend checking road conditions before heading out, as hazardous travel may linger into Friday night before conditions gradually improve early Saturday.
