Cleveland, Ohio – Northern Ohio residents should brace for possible severe storms through Wednesday evening as damaging wind gusts move in behind a stretch of intense heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms remains in effect across much of northern Ohio until late tonight, with damaging winds the primary hazard. Scattered storms are expected to increase in coverage through the afternoon and early evening.

While high temperatures today will remain seasonably warm—peaking around 87°F in Akron-Canton and Cleveland—the region is finally seeing a break from the early-week heat wave. Cities including Sandusky, Toledo, and Elyria will hover in the low to mid-80s, offering slight relief after several days of oppressive heat.

Residents in counties from Lorain to Ashtabula should secure outdoor items and prepare for sudden gusts or localized outages. Commuters should watch for slick roads and rapid visibility drops during any storm bursts. Winds could reach 40–50 mph in stronger cells, especially between 3 and 8 p.m.

Stay weather-aware, and keep mobile devices charged in case of brief power disruptions. Further updates or watches could be issued later this afternoon.
