Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a small craft advisory and beach hazards statement for Lake Erie, effective from this morning through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds of 15 to 20 knots will shift to the north later today, causing waves to build from 2 to 4 feet. These conditions are expected to persist through the evening and into Monday morning. Swimming is discouraged as waves may reach up to 5 feet.
A beach hazards statement is in effect for Lorain County and the counties of Cuyahoga, Lake, Ashtabula, and Erie, PA. Winds will be between 10 to 20 knots, with waves remaining around 1 to 3 feet.
The forecast indicates a cold front will move southeast across Lake Erie, bringing cooler weather and continued hazardous marine conditions. By Tuesday, a ridge from the Upper Midwest will move in, followed by another cold front on Wednesday night. Winds are expected to shift southeast, with calmer waves.
Marine forecasts highlight that waves will be significant, with the highest waves reaching up to 5 feet. Boaters and swimmers are urged to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather advisories. Winds and waves are predicted to be higher near thunderstorms, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms by midweek.
