Boonville, NY – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Northern Oneida County through 1 p.m. Thursday, with 6 to 12 inches of snow expected, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
The first wave of steady snow is already moving through the area and will continue for much of Wednesday before a brief lull develops late in the day. A second round of lake effect and upslope snow is forecast to redevelop tonight, continuing into Thursday as winds strengthen and temperatures drop.
By Thursday morning, gusts up to 30 mph could create blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility and making travel very difficult to impossible. Both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes are expected to be hazardous.
Forecasters urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and ensure vehicles are stocked with flashlights, food, and water in case of emergencies. Road condition updates for New York can be obtained by calling 511 or visiting the state’s travel information website.
