Lake Placid, NY – A winter weather advisory is in effect across northern New York, where ice and snow could significantly impact travel and power lines through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the advisory began at 8 p.m. Friday and continues until 8 p.m. Sunday. A mix of snow and freezing rain is expected, with snow totals ranging from 1 to 4 inches. Ice accumulation could reach up to three-tenths of an inch in many areas, with isolated spots possibly seeing as much as half an inch.

The advisory affects key areas including Lake Placid, Massena, Ogdensburg, Malone, Ticonderoga, and parts of southwestern St. Lawrence County. In Vermont, western and eastern sections of Addison, Rutland, and Windsor counties are also under the advisory.

Officials warn that snow and ice loading could cause isolated to scattered power outages. Travel may become hazardous, especially during peak freezing periods Friday night through Saturday. Additional ice buildup is expected into Sunday.

Residents are urged to slow down and use caution on roadways. Preparing for possible power disruptions and limiting unnecessary travel are strongly advised during the advisory period.
