BURLINGTON, Vt. – A soft but steady curtain of snow swept across northern Vermont early Tuesday, leaving thin white streaks on fields, rooftops, and morning windshields. The air is crisp and sharp — the kind that burns your breath — as the Champlain Valley wakes to another reminder that late fall has officially turned the corner toward winter.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, snow has tapered off across much of Vermont and northern New York, but slick roads and patchy refreezing could make early travel tricky. Drivers along I-89, Route 7, and through the Adirondack foothills should watch for black ice and use caution on bridges and shaded curves. While only light accumulation remains in Burlington itself, forecasters expect another round of snow showers to redevelop Wednesday and Thursday, with higher terrain in the northern Greens possibly picking up 2 to 6 inches of fresh snow.

Winds will stay brisk today, adding to the chill. Temperatures start near 30°F and climb only slightly by afternoon before another push of colder air returns. By midweek, a rain-snow mix may develop across the Champlain Valley as milder air briefly nudges north. Still, overnight lows will dip well below freezing, keeping slush frozen and sidewalks slick.

Late in the week, skies brighten and temperatures edge into the upper 30s and low 40s, ideal for leaf cleanup or early holiday decorating. But with more snow showers on the horizon heading into next week, Vermonters should stay alert — this “winter tease” may soon turn into something more lasting.
