Lake Placid, N.Y. – The Adirondacks and parts of northern Vermont will wake to patchy frost Tuesday morning as a Frost Advisory takes effect overnight. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30s, threatening gardens and sensitive vegetation.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the advisory is in place from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday for Essex County, Vermont, along with southeastern St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, and Essex counties in northern New York. Communities including Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Star Lake, Newcomb, and Island Pond are likely to see frost on the ground by daybreak.

Gardeners should cover crops or bring potted plants inside before midnight to avoid damage. Low-lying valleys and open fields are most at risk, where cold air pools and frost develops most readily.

Morning drivers may also encounter frosted windshields and slick patches in shaded areas, adding extra time to the commute. Skies will clear and temperatures will rebound into the 60s by Tuesday afternoon, but forecasters caution additional cold nights could bring repeat frost risks later this week.
