Burlington, Vt. – Vermont and northern New York are about to feel an early taste of fall, with temperatures set to drop sharply after the weekend. While warmer air holds through Saturday and Sunday, a strong cold front arriving Monday will deliver crisp, autumn-like air across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, overnight lows in the Adirondacks could dip close to freezing early next week, especially in sheltered valleys and hollows. The Champlain Valley and northern Vermont will stay warmer, but still see lows in the 40s and daytime highs running well below seasonal averages.

The shift will be noticeable for travelers and residents alike. Outdoor evening plans may require jackets, and gardeners in cooler pockets should be prepared for potential frost by midweek. Those camping in higher elevations across the Green Mountains or Adirondacks should take extra gear as nighttime temperatures tumble.

The cooler pattern is expected to linger through the end of August, keeping highs in check across New England. Additional advisories are possible if frost risks expand beyond the mountains.
