Albuquerque, NM – The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Northern Sangre de Cristo and Tusas Mountains, warning that 2 to 6 inches of snow are expected overnight, with up to 9 inches possible on the highest peaks.
The advisory goes into effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday, and includes travel routes along U.S. Highway 64 and New Mexico State Road 38, where slick and icy conditions are likely by early morning.
Forecasters caution that travel could become difficult, especially above 9,000 feet, as snow accumulates and winds gust up to 35 mph. Reduced traction and blowing snow may lead to hazardous mountain driving conditions overnight.
Drivers in areas near Chama, Taos, and Angel Fire should use caution, allow extra time, and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Those traveling early Monday morning should prepare for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility.
The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 8 a.m. MST Monday, covering the Tusas and Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
