Berlin, NH – Roads across northern New England are turning slick early Friday as freezing rain and sleet coat surfaces, creating hazardous travel during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday for much of New Hampshire and southern Maine, with ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch. In parts of central and northern Maine, advisories extend until noon, with additional sleet up to a quarter inch and wind gusts reaching 35 mph .

Communities including Berlin, North Conway, Lebanon, and Plymouth in New Hampshire are seeing icy roads and below-freezing temperatures, especially on untreated surfaces. In Maine, cities like Lewiston, Augusta, Farmington, and Skowhegan face a mix of sleet and freezing rain that may quickly glaze bridges and overpasses.

In northern areas such as Rangeley and Jackman, light snow is mixing in, adding another layer of hazard on rural roads.

Drivers should slow down, avoid unnecessary travel, and check New England 511 for real-time road conditions. Conditions improve late Friday morning, but additional advisories could be issued if icing persists.
