Portland, Maine – Dry conditions will briefly return across Maine today, but another round of rain and wintry weather is set to move in by Thursday, bringing renewed travel concerns into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, precipitation will taper off this morning, leaving mainly dry conditions through the rest of the day. However, a new system arrives Thursday, with rain spreading across southern Maine by midday and increasing into the evening hours.

Higher elevations and northern areas, including locations near Rangeley, Jackman, and the White Mountains, could see a wintry mix or snow, especially Thursday night into Friday. Some of the highest precipitation chances, reaching 80% to 95%, are expected overnight into early Friday.

Roads across routes like I-95, Route 1, and inland highways could become slick in northern and elevated areas, particularly where temperatures hover near freezing.

By Friday, widespread rain continues for southern areas, while mixed precipitation lingers in the north before gradually tapering.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions, especially if traveling north or into higher terrain. Additional advisories may be issued as the system develops Thursday into Friday.
