Reno, Nev. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms Wednesday could bring dangerous flooding to western Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin, prompting safety warnings through tonight. Drivers along I-580 and U.S. 395 should be prepared for ponding on roads and sudden low visibility during evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday. Excessive rainfall could cause flash flooding in burn scar areas, poor drainage zones, and small streams. Communities including Sparks, Incline Village, Gardnerville, and Virginia City remain at heightened risk. Officials urge residents to avoid flood-prone intersections and never attempt to drive through water-covered roads.

Storms will taper off overnight, giving way to calmer skies by Thursday morning. Sunshine dominates the rest of the week, with daytime highs climbing into the mid to upper 80s. Conditions stay warm and dry through Labor Day weekend, offering ideal weather for outdoor gatherings, lake trips, and holiday travel.

Still, forecasters stress caution Wednesday night as lingering storms may trigger isolated flooding until the watch expires. Residents should keep phones charged for emergency alerts and check local updates before heading out.
