Reno, Nev. – Northern Nevada will enjoy sunny skies and above-average warmth through Saturday, but showers are expected to return late Sunday into Monday. Highs in Reno will push into the mid-80s Saturday before cooler, unsettled conditions arrive early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a weak system will bring a 20 percent chance of showers to the area Sunday afternoon, increasing in coverage Sunday night and Monday. Thunderstorms are also possible Monday, with daytime highs cooling to around 70.

Drivers around I-580 and I-80 should be alert for wet roads beginning late Sunday, especially during Monday’s morning commute. Areas around Sparks, Sun Valley, and Spanish Springs may see the first measurable rainfall in nearly a week.

The pleasant start to the weekend may encourage outdoor plans, but residents should prepare for a shift by Sunday. Keeping rain gear handy and allowing extra travel time on Monday will help ease the transition back to wet weather.

Showers are expected to linger into Tuesday before drier, warmer conditions return by midweek.
