Reno, Nev. – Dangerous heat is expected to grip northern Nevada beginning Friday, with highs between 99 and 103 degrees lasting into early Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Washoe, Lyon, and Mineral counties, warning that heat-related illnesses are more likely during this stretch.
According to the Weather Service in Reno, the advisory will be in effect from noon Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday, covering cities including Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Yerington, and Silver Springs. Warm overnight lows between 63 and 72 degrees will offer little relief, raising the risk of dehydration and heat stress.
Residents without air conditioning or those working outdoors are most vulnerable. Officials urge people to stay hydrated, limit time in the sun, and check on elderly neighbors or those with medical conditions. Road crews, festival-goers, and outdoor workers face the highest risk if precautions are not taken.
Temperatures are expected to ease slightly by late Saturday as chances for thunderstorms increase across western Nevada. However, another round of warm conditions is likely early next week.
