Reno, Nev. – A stretch of near-triple-digit heat will grip Reno through the weekend, but the National Weather Service warns that thunderstorm chances will return Friday and continue into early next week.
According to the Weather Service in Reno, highs will climb to 98 degrees Friday before clouds build and storms develop after 11 a.m. Gusty winds and brief heavy rain are possible, with a 20 percent chance of storms lingering into Friday night. Saturday brings a stronger chance of showers and thunderstorms across Washoe County, with highs holding near 95.
The storm threat could complicate weekend travel along I-580 and I-80, especially during the afternoon and evening when storms are most likely. Outdoor events in Reno, Sparks, and surrounding valleys may be impacted by lightning and sudden downpours. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and move indoors at the first sign of thunder.
While thunder chances taper at night, scattered storms remain possible through Tuesday. Temperatures will trend slightly cooler early next week, with highs falling into the mid-80s by Tuesday.
