Reno, NV – The National Weather Service in Reno has issued Wind Advisories for much of northern Nevada and northeastern California, effective 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, as powerful southwest winds are forecast to sweep across the region.
Forecasters expect sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph for most areas—and as high as 65 mph in wind-prone locations, including the US-395 and I-580 corridors, and foothill zones around Reno, Carson City, Susanville, and the Surprise Valley.
According to the National Weather Service, the strongest gusts could knock down tree limbs, cause scattered power outages, and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents in the Davis Fire burn area are also warned about the risk of fallen trees in weakened ground conditions.
For the Western Nevada Basin and Range, including Pyramid Lake, winds could generate waves of 2 to 4 feet, creating dangerous boating conditions. Blowing dust may reduce visibility along I-80, U.S. 50, and Highway 95.
Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, avoid lake activities, and prepare for potential power interruptions. Conditions are expected to ease late Saturday night.
