Northern Nevada Rain Update: Showers and Thunder Possible Friday Before Weekend Warm-Up

Reno, Nev. – Northern Nevada could see showers and isolated thunderstorms Thursday night into Friday, bringing cooler temperatures before a warm, sunny weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a 30 percent chance of showers will move in after 8 p.m. Thursday, with scattered storms possible through Friday evening. Gusty winds from the southeast and west could reach 5 mph at times, and rainfall may impact evening commutes.

Friday will stay mostly cloudy, with highs near 73 before showers taper off late Friday night. By Saturday, conditions improve with mostly sunny skies and highs around 79, setting the stage for a warmer stretch. Temperatures rebound into the low 80s Sunday and Monday under clear skies.

Residents should be prepared for slick roads during overnight showers, especially along I-580, U.S. 395, and mountain passes where visibility could be reduced. Travelers heading into the Sierra are advised to check conditions before leaving.

The storm system exits by Saturday morning, and no additional rain is expected into early next week.
