Reno, Nev. – A dangerous heat wave continues Friday in Reno, where highs near 98°F could push road and trail conditions to unsafe levels before relief arrives with thunderstorms this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory until 9 a.m. Friday, warning residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, temperatures will reach the upper 90s again Saturday, followed by a 20 to 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning late in the day. Storm chances increase Saturday night into Sunday, with the heaviest rainfall expected along the Sierra front.

Drivers on I-580, U.S. 395, and surrounding mountain passes should prepare for sudden downpours and slick roads through early next week. Outdoor events and backcountry plans may also face interruptions as showers develop each afternoon and evening.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid strenuous outdoor work during peak heat hours until Friday evening. Thunderstorms through Tuesday may bring cooler air, but lightning and localized flooding remain concerns.

Heat advisories are expected to expire Friday morning, but unsettled conditions could bring new alerts through early next week.
