Nevada – Northern Nevada is under a critical fire weather warning today as strong winds and dry conditions combine to create extreme fire risks, especially near the I-80 corridor. The NWS has placed much of northern Nevada under a red flag warning, forecasting winds up to 60 mph in some areas.
The dry vegetation across the region, coupled with these high winds, means that any spark could lead to rapid fire spread. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and activities that could cause sparks, such as welding or using power tools near dry grass.
The fire risk is expected to remain elevated into Friday, with slightly cooler temperatures and potential rain showers forecasted next week. Travelers along I-80 are encouraged to drive cautiously and report any signs of fire immediately.
