Hastings, Nebraska – Strong to severe thunderstorms could rattle parts of Nebraska from Sunday afternoon through the overnight hours, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail to areas including Hastings, Kearney, and Grand Island.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Level 2 (slight) risk has been issued for much of central and northern Nebraska for Sunday, April 27. Storms are expected to develop by late afternoon and intensify into the evening, with the potential to produce hail over one inch in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph.
Cities in the higher-risk zone include Broken Bow, Ord, and O’Neill, where outdoor events may be disrupted and travel could become hazardous during peak storm activity. Drivers are urged to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the late evening.
Residents should secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and prepare for brief power outages. This system marks one of the more widespread severe threats of the season so far across central Nebraska.
Storms are expected to taper off by early Monday, but forecasters warn that additional weather advisories may be issued depending on storm development.
