Kirksville, MO – The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a Winter Storm Warning for northern Missouri, including Putnam, Adair, Schuyler, Mercer, and Sullivan Counties, effective from midnight Friday to midnight Saturday night.

Forecasters expect heavy snow and mixed precipitation, with total accumulations ranging from 3 to 9 inches depending on location. Areas farther north, including Kirksville, Unionville, and Lancaster, could see the highest totals, while areas farther south may see a mix of sleet or light freezing rain before turning to all snow Saturday morning.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight, becoming slick and hazardous by Saturday morning. “Travel could be very difficult,” the National Weather Service warned, advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel and carry emergency supplies if they must drive.

Motorists can check real-time updates by visiting traveler.modot.org in Missouri or calling 511 for state road information.

Snow is forecast to taper off late Saturday night, though cold temperatures will keep road surfaces icy into Sunday morning.
