Jackson, Mississippi – Severe thunderstorms are expected to redevelop across Mississippi beginning late Saturday evening, with the strongest storms likely between 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, particularly in the northwest portion of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, areas from Greenville to Greenwood face a slight risk for damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail ranging from quarter to golf ball size. A tornado cannot be ruled out. Most of central and eastern Mississippi, including Jackson, Philadelphia, and Meridian, remain under a marginal risk, where isolated severe storms may develop.
Storms could affect travel on major routes such as I-55 and US-82, especially after dark. Residents in Yazoo City, Eupora, and Columbus should secure outdoor items, remain weather-aware, and prepare for possible power outages due to downed limbs or trees.
While the storms are expected to be less intense than Thursday’s outbreak, the timing and hail threat make Saturday night hazardous.
Storm chances taper off by early Sunday, but the NWS warns that additional alerts may be issued if conditions escalate. Stay tuned for updates.
