Duluth, MN – The wind off Lake Superior feels razor-sharp this morning, a sure sign that winter has locked its icy grip across northern Minnesota. Temperatures are already in the teens, but by late Wednesday night, wind chills could plunge to –30°F, making even a few minutes outside risky without proper protection.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region, warning that Wind Chill Advisories may be needed through early Thursday. Northwest winds gusting near 25–30 mph will combine with single-digit lows to produce biting cold that can freeze exposed skin within minutes.

Flurries will persist through Wednesday, with skies briefly clearing before another round of light snow develops Thursday night into Friday. Snowfall amounts remain minor, but slick spots may form on Highway 53, I-35, and local roadways as powdery snow drifts under strong winds.

By Friday, highs recover slightly into the 20s, but the region stays locked in an early December cold snap. The weekend will be calmer, though temperatures remain well below normal for this time of year.

Five-Day Outlook for Duluth, MN:

  • Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 15°F.
  • Thursday Night: Snow chance, low 9°F.
  • Friday: Snow showers, high 25°F.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, high 15°F.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, high 14°F.
