Duluth, MN — Northern Minnesota is experiencing unseasonably cool temperatures more typical of autumn, accompanied by scattered showers. Today, highs will reach only between 53°F and 67°F, with scattered showers throughout the region. A unique weather phenomenon could also appear as the National Weather Service (NWS) Duluth has issued an alert for a 10-20% chance of fair-weather waterspouts on Lake Superior. The highest risk area is around the Apostle Islands to Saxon Harbor.
According to the NWS, waterspouts, while often short-lived, can overturn boats and create hazardous sea conditions. Residents and visitors are advised to be vigilant and avoid these phenomena if spotted. The best course of action is to move at a 90-degree angle from their movement.
As showers taper off by this evening, Northern Minnesota will enjoy a dry weekend with temperatures gradually rising. Saturday’s highs will range from 61°F to 71°F under partly sunny skies, while Sunday sees a further warm-up with highs reaching 72°F to 81°F. The warming trend will continue into Monday, though there is a slight chance of afternoon sprinkles. By midweek, temperatures are expected to stabilize with highs nearing 80°F under mostly sunny skies.
