Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota residents can expect a mix of mild and breezy conditions today, with temperatures varying sharply depending on proximity to Lake Superior.

According to the US National Weather Service in Duluth, inland areas will see highs in the 70s and 80s Tuesday, September 30. Winds from the southeast are expected to be breezy, with gusts reaching between 15 and 20 mph.

Closer to Lake Superior, the forecast turns cooler and windier. Highs near the shore will remain in the 60s, while gusty northeast winds could reach 25 to 35 mph (20–30 knots). The weather service also noted increasing cloud cover throughout the day, particularly around Duluth, Grand Marais, and other communities along the lake.

While conditions inland are considered mild and seasonal, those near the shoreline may notice stronger gusts and cooler air. The contrast could make for a blustery day for anyone traveling between inland Minnesota and the lakeshore.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to use caution, particularly near open water and bridges, where stronger winds could make travel more difficult. Boaters on Lake Superior should take note of the 30-knot gusts, which may create choppy waters.
