DULUTH, Minn. – Farmers and gardeners across northern Minnesota should brace for another round of frost tonight as clear skies and calm winds set up ideal cooling conditions. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s, with some pockets nearing the freezing mark.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, while a widespread freeze is unlikely, temperatures cold enough to damage sensitive vegetation are possible from International Falls to the Iron Range and into the Arrowhead region. Residents are urged to cover plants or bring them indoors to avoid damage.
Daytime highs will recover into the upper 50s and mid-60s Sunday, but another chilly night is expected, with patchy frost possible again. Beyond the weekend, a shift in the weather pattern brings increasing rain chances. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are likely Monday afternoon into Tuesday, with some storms carrying the potential to turn strong.
Travel impacts are expected to remain minimal this weekend, though wet roads and reduced visibility could become a concern once storms move in early next week.
Cool conditions linger through Sunday night, but warmer, more seasonable temperatures are expected to return by Tuesday.
