DULUTH, Minn. – Gardeners and campers in northern Minnesota are waking up to an early chill as a frost advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures dropped into the mid-30s across parts of St. Louis, Cook, and Lake counties, cold enough to damage or kill sensitive plants.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory covers Central and North St. Louis County, including Hibbing and Ely, as well as Isabella in Lake County. Voyageurs National Park, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and tribal lands of the Bois Forte Band at Lake Vermilion and Nett Lake are also included in the frost threat.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in plants to prevent damage, as frost formation is likely in low-lying and open areas. Campers in the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs may notice icy coatings on gear and should prepare for a cold morning start.

The chill is expected to ease after sunrise, with temperatures rebounding later in the day. However, more advisories could be issued if clear skies and calm winds return this week.
