Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota is under a flood watch as severe weather conditions are expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds overnight. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of localized flooding due to significant precipitation and gusty winds in the region.
According to the NWS, thunderstorms are predicted to deliver substantial rainfall from Monday evening through early Wednesday morning. Areas such as International Falls, Big Falls, and Duluth could receive up to 1.5 inches of rain, with some locations experiencing even higher amounts.
In addition to the heavy rain, the NWS forecasts strong winds in the lower levels of the atmosphere, with gusts reaching up to 50 knots. These winds could result in gusty conditions over land and potentially impact the lake surface along the South Shore. Currently, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Chequamegon Bay to Saxon Harbor, where stronger winds are anticipated.
