Duluth, MN – Travelers across Northern Minnesota should prepare for waves of cold air and periods of snow through Thanksgiving week, especially along the North Shore and across the Iron Range, according to the latest maps from the Weather Prediction Center.

According to the WPC, a strong push of Arctic air will sweep into Northern Minnesota Wednesday, delivering scattered snow showers across Duluth, Ely, Hibbing, International Falls, Bemidji, and the Arrowhead region. Light accumulations are likely in some areas, particularly along Highway 61 and U.S. 53. Travel may slow at times as visibility briefly drops in passing snow bands.

Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025) will remain cold and unsettled. Highs will struggle to reach the low 20s in northern counties, with teens possible near the Canadian border. A combination of lake-effect and terrain-enhanced snow may continue along the North Shore, affecting communities from Two Harbors to Grand Marais. Though snowfall totals should remain light, the persistent nature of these bands could create slick roads and reduced visibility during the day.

Elsewhere across Northern Minnesota, travelers should expect cold breezes, scattered flurries, and wind chills in the single digits and teens. The Iron Range and Boundary Waters regions may see periods of light snow with minimal accumulation.

By Black Friday (November 28, 2025), another reinforcing surge of cold air arrives. Snow showers may redevelop along the North Shore and across the Arrowhead, with gusty winds creating blowing snow in open areas. Early shoppers can expect icy spots on rural and shaded roads, especially during the morning hours.

Drivers traveling across Northern Minnesota should allow extra time, especially near Lake Superior where lake-effect snow is most likely.
