Duluth, Minn. – Northern Minnesota will see several nights of unusually cold weather, with frost likely in many areas through Sunday before a warmer stretch begins next week. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s across the Iron Range and Arrowhead, raising concern for gardens and crops.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the best chance for widespread frost comes Saturday night when clear skies and calm winds could drop temperatures into the upper 30s in Duluth, Hibbing, Ely, and Grand Rapids. Isolated frost patches are also possible Friday and Sunday nights. Sensitive plants left uncovered may be damaged.
Daytime conditions will remain cool into the weekend, with highs only in the 50s to low 60s. Showers are possible Friday and Saturday, but Sunday will turn partly sunny and mild. Starting Monday, temperatures climb back closer to seasonal norms, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s across much of northeastern Minnesota.
Residents are advised to protect outdoor vegetation and prepare for chilly mornings until early Monday. Additional advisories are possible if frost risk increases.
