Duluth, MN – Drivers and boaters across northern Minnesota are being urged to use caution Monday morning as dense fog continues to blanket the region, sharply reducing visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2025. Visibility on land has dropped to a quarter mile or less in some areas, particularly across counties near Lake Superior including St. Louis, Carlton, and Lake counties.

Forecasters said the fog is expected to persist through the morning commute before gradually improving by late morning. Travelers on highways around Duluth, Two Harbors, and Grand Rapids should expect slower driving conditions and potential delays.

Marine areas of western Lake Superior are also under advisory. According to the weather service, visibility for boaters could be limited to one nautical mile or less through mid-morning. Additional marine advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.

Authorities urge motorists to use headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra distance when driving in fog. Boaters are also advised to navigate carefully and monitor updated forecasts throughout the morning.
