Michigan – A bitter 23-degree start grips Gaylord before sunrise, and slick spots could develop quickly as freezing fog lingers in pockets of northern Lower Michigan. Calm winds and subfreezing pavement increase the risk for icy patches on elevated roads, including stretches of US-131.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, light wintry mix remains possible near the Straits early today. While widespread accumulation is not expected this morning, conditions turn more impactful Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Highs reach 42°F later today with scattered showers possible. That brief February thaw fades quickly tonight as temperatures drop to around 22°F. Areas of freezing fog could redevelop before daybreak.

Tuesday climbs to near 40°F with partial sunshine, but changes arrive after sunset. A 100% chance of precipitation develops Tuesday night. Snow may begin first, then mix with sleet and freezing rain after 1 a.m. Gusts could reach 30 mph, reducing visibility.

Wednesday, February 18, carries a 90% chance of a wintry mix. Periods of snow and freezing rain may create icy travel during the morning and midday hours. Light snow accumulation and glaze ice are possible before precipitation tapers Wednesday night.

Colder air settles in late week. Highs drop into the 30s Thursday and Friday, with additional snow showers likely.

Looking ahead to President’s Day Week, the 6- to 10-day outlook hints at gradual moderation. After this midweek Winter Weather push, temperatures trend milder into early next week, though February remains capable of quick cold snaps across northern Michigan.
