Gaylord, MI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon across much of northern and northeastern Michigan, with the National Weather Service in Gaylord warning of continued snow, strong winds, and low visibility impacting travel.

The warning includes Alpena, Presque Isle, Alcona, Arenac, Gladwin, Iosco, Ogemaw, Eastern Mackinac, and Southeast Chippewa counties. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 1 to 6 inches, depending on location, with the heaviest accumulations near Alpena and the eastern Upper Peninsula.

Forecasters say winds will increase late this morning into the afternoon, creating blowing and drifting snow that could sharply reduce visibility on highways including US-23, I-75, and M-32. Roadways, bridges, and overpasses are expected to remain slick and hazardous into early afternoon as snow and slush continue to build up.

Travelers are urged to delay trips if possible and use extreme caution if driving. The weather service advises motorists to allow extra time, maintain safe distances, and be alert for sudden visibility drops, especially in open or rural areas.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 1 p.m., though isolated snow showers may persist through the afternoon before tapering off this evening.
