Gaylord, Mich. – A round of showers and isolated thunderstorms could move across eastern Upper Michigan and the Straits area late Friday night into early Saturday, bringing brief downpours but no severe weather risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, storm chances increase after midnight, with scattered activity expected until around sunrise Saturday. While lightning and heavier rain are possible at times, forecasters emphasized that widespread hazards are not anticipated.

The greatest impacts will be felt from Mackinac Island to Presque Isle and inland across Otsego and Montmorency counties. Drivers along I-75 near the Straits should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility during the early morning hours. By Saturday afternoon, skies turn partly sunny with highs in the mid-70s.

Sunday will bring another round of showers, especially across Gaylord, Petoskey, and Cheboygan, before clearing again by Monday. Cooler air follows with highs only in the 60s through early next week.

Residents are advised to keep an eye on changing conditions tonight but no spotter activation or emergency alerts are expected. Drier, calmer weather dominates after the weekend, with the next notable chance of rain arriving late Sunday into Monday.
