Gaylord, MI – Wind sweeps across northern Michigan this morning as a major winter system continues to tighten its grip on the region. Snow is already piling up along the lakeshore, with roads turning slick and visibility falling fast across Antrim, Otsego, and Crawford counties. By late day, travel could become treacherous for anyone returning home from the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Friday. Additional snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are expected in lake-effect zones, with localized totals near 10 inches possible before tapering Saturday. Gusts up to 35 mph will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow, especially along open stretches of I-75 and M-32.

Residents should plan extra time if traveling Friday night through Sunday. Winds and fresh powder will continue to reduce visibility at times, particularly during heavier bursts. The snow machine doesn’t stop there—meteorologists are tracking another system late Saturday into early Sunday that could add several more inches as it sweeps through the Great Lakes.

Temperatures stay wintry: highs in the 20s and lows in the teens through Monday. Early next week, a cold front will usher in even lower temperatures, signaling a firm shift toward early December weather. Expect more snow chances from Tuesday through Thursday as Arctic air spreads eastward.
