Gaylord, Michigan – A dangerous combination of heat and humidity is building across Michigan today, with heat indices soaring near 100° in parts of the Lower Peninsula, particularly around Saginaw Bay. The sweltering conditions are expected to fuel scattered showers and thunderstorms through 8 a.m. Friday, raising concerns for strong winds and brief periods of heavy rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the highest chance for severe storms will remain south of the Mackinac Bridge, where robust cells may develop during the late afternoon and evening. While northern Lower Michigan will see the greatest storm coverage, parts of the eastern Upper Peninsula should remain cooler, with highs only in the 70s.

Communities from Bay City to Gaylord should prepare for the possibility of localized flooding, quick-moving downpours, and gusty winds. Those in areas with elevated heat indices are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

This weather pattern marks one of the hottest days of the summer so far in northeastern Michigan. The heat and storm threat will gradually ease by Friday morning, but residents should stay alert for possible watches or warnings tonight.
