Marquette, MI – Lake-effect snow showers will continue to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula through Wednesday, bringing icy conditions and bitter temperatures.

Residents are advised to prepare for 1-2 inches of snow daily, with blustery winds creating hazardous travel conditions. Northwest wind gusts up to 30 mph will reduce visibility along major roadways, including U.S. Route 41 and M-28.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, Monday will bring scattered snow showers, mainly in the morning, with high temperatures reaching 23°F. Wind chills will remain in the single digits. Snow accumulation is expected to stay light, but patchy blowing snow could further hinder road safety.

Tuesday’s forecast includes snow showers continuing into the afternoon, with highs near 21°F and north winds between 10-20 mph. By Wednesday, a reinforcing cold front will bring daytime highs struggling to reach 17°F. Lows in the single digits will result in potentially dangerous wind chills.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time, monitor updated forecasts, and pack emergency supplies for commutes. While snowfall amounts will remain moderate, roads and sidewalks may remain slick due to subfreezing temperatures.

The five-day outlook suggests improving conditions by Thursday, with sunny skies and a slight warm-up to 25°F. Friday and Saturday may see a return of scattered snow showers, though accumulation remains uncertain.

Stay vigilant and follow local weather alerts to navigate these early January conditions safely.
