Gaylord, Michigan – Overcast skies and overnight showers are expected to dampen eastern sections of Northern Michigan, especially east of I-75, as a chilly pattern holds firm over the region Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, occasional rain showers will develop after midnight east of I-75, with lows ranging from 37°F to 42°F. West of I-75, skies will remain mixed through the evening before clouding over, with scattered showers focused across the eastern Upper Peninsula and temperatures dropping as low as 36°F.

Drivers should use caution on rural roads, especially in hilly or poorly lit areas, where wet pavement could reduce traction. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities overnight, secure any outdoor decorations for the holiday weekend, and ensure vehicles are prepared for damp, chilly mornings.

The unsettled pattern continues into Saturday, with spotty showers possible through midday. Temperatures will stay well below average until at least Sunday. This marks the coldest Memorial Day weekend start in several years across Northern Michigan.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late Sunday into Monday. Additional updates and advisories may follow if Saturday’s showers persist or temperatures dip further overnight.
