Gaylord, MI – Accumulating wet snow is expected across Northern Michigan today as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, snow totals could range between 4 to 6 inches, with hazardous conditions impacting roads, including US-131 and surrounding highways. Drivers should plan for reduced visibility and slippery surfaces throughout the day.

The advisory warns of heavy, wet snow during morning and afternoon commutes, with gusts up to 25 mph creating additional challenges. Residents are urged to use caution while traveling and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

Extended Forecast:

As the snow tapers off tonight, temperatures will remain steady in the low 20s, with a chance of light snow showers continuing into Tuesday morning. Tuesday will bring calmer conditions and mostly cloudy skies, with daytime highs near 35°F. Winds are expected to diminish, creating safer travel conditions.

Looking ahead, a gradual warming trend will bring milder weather by midweek. Christmas Day will feature cloudy skies and highs in the low 30s, making holiday travel more manageable. By Thursday, temperatures could rise to near 40°F, with no major storms in the forecast.

This shift in conditions offers a reprieve from today’s snowfall, though lingering icy patches on roads could still pose risks. Officials advise remaining cautious during the week.
