GAYLORD, Mich. – Seasonable fall weather will give way to showers by Friday across northern Michigan, as a weak system spreads rain into the region. Sunshine and cool air dominate Thursday before clouds increase overnight, signaling a wetter pattern ahead for late week.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered showers could develop late tonight near the Lake Michigan shoreline and west of I-75 in the eastern Upper Peninsula. Steadier rain arrives Friday, bringing a soaking to much of the tip of the mitt and the eastern U.P. Temperatures will stay mild, with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s.

Saturday looks unsettled early, though shower coverage will decrease by afternoon as drier air moves in from the west. The weather pattern then trends calmer and warmer to end the weekend. Sunshine and lighter winds Sunday should lift highs into the upper 60s, marking a pleasant turnaround for outdoor events and leaf-peeping.

Motorists should plan for slick stretches on U.S. 131 and M-32 Friday morning, with reduced visibility during heavier rain. Those traveling or camping near the Lake Michigan shore should stay alert for changing conditions. Residents are encouraged to check local advisories and keep devices charged in case of brief power interruptions from gusty showers.
