Michigan – snow drifts quietly through gray skies this morning, dusting rooftops and softening roads across northern Lower Michigan. Tires crunch, visibility fades, and winter feels fully settled in.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, localized snowfall of several inches is possible today, especially west and northwest of Gaylord toward Antrim and Charlevoix counties. Snow showers may linger into tonight, with additional accumulations possible as bands shift. Ice jams are also being monitored on area rivers, which could lead to localized flooding.

In and around Gaylord, Mancelona, and Otsego Lake, travel conditions remain variable. Snow-covered stretches of M-32, U.S. 131, and secondary roads may turn slick, especially where blowing snow reduces visibility. Drivers should expect changing conditions and allow extra stopping distance.

Temperatures remain locked in the single digits and teens, keeping road treatments less effective. Any brief melting during daylight can refreeze quickly after sunset, increasing the risk of flash freezing and black ice. Pedestrians should watch for icy sidewalks and parking lots.

Snow chances continue into Tuesday, with scattered snow showers possible and another light accumulation not ruled out. Attention then turns to Wednesday, when clouds thicken again and additional snow showers may develop. While no major storm is expected midweek, repeated light snow can still impact travel during peak hours.

By Thursday and Friday, colder air settles back in. Highs struggle to reach the lower teens, with overnight lows dipping below zero. Winds ease late week, but the cold remains sharp across the region.

Longer-range outlooks suggest quieter weather into early February, though winter remains firmly in control. Additional weather alerts could be issued if snow bands intensify.
