Gaylord, MI – A tornado warning remains in effect for northeastern Antrim County until 6:45 p.m. Monday evening, with the National Weather Service urging residents to seek shelter immediately.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected northeast of Bellaire at 6:09 p.m., moving northeast at 35 mph. A trained spotter also reported a possible tornado near Torch Lake at 5:55 p.m.

The storm is expected to impact Jordan Township around 6:15 p.m. and the communities of Alba and Warner Township by approximately 6:20 p.m. In addition to the tornado threat, the system is producing hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter—roughly the size of ping pong balls.

Forecasters warn that flying debris could be life-threatening, especially for those outdoors, in mobile homes, or traveling in vehicles. Roof, window, and vehicle damage is possible, along with significant tree damage.

Residents are advised to move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. If sheltering in place is not possible, seek the nearest substantial structure and cover yourself from flying debris.
