Michigan – Fine snowflakes begin to drift through the cold air late this morning, lightly dusting roads and cutting visibility across northern Michigan. The chill bites, and surfaces can turn slick fast, especially on untreated roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow shower chances increase through the day and into tonight, especially in northwest flow areas. While accumulation stays light, brief bursts could still reduce visibility and create quick travel impacts .

Across Gaylord, Petoskey, and Grayling, drivers along I-75 and US-131 should stay alert. Pavement temperatures remain cold enough for snow to stick in spots. Expect slushy patches during heavier bursts and sudden changes in road conditions. Plan extra time if heading out.

Temperatures struggle to climb, topping out near 26°F. That cold air lingers into tonight as readings fall toward the mid-teens. Any melted snow refreezes quickly, increasing the risk of black ice by early Saturday morning.

Saturday brings some improvement with partial sunshine and highs near the low 30s. A stray snow shower cannot be ruled out early, but most areas trend drier. By Sunday, a noticeable warm-up arrives, pushing temperatures toward the upper 40s under partly sunny skies.

The biggest shift comes Monday. Highs climb into the low 50s, signaling a strong push of spring across northern Michigan. That warmer air also brings moisture back, with showers developing Monday night into Tuesday.

Meteorologists are watching a more active pattern into midweek, with rain and possibly mixed precipitation returning.
