Gaylord, MI – A late March snow event will bring up to 3 inches of lake effect snow to northwest lower Michigan Tuesday night before spring weather moves in midweek. Motorists on US-131 from Kalkaska to Mancelona should brace for slick roads and low visibility through early Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow bands will taper off by Wednesday morning as wind gusts decrease from 25 mph overnight. Areas most affected include Charlevoix, Emmet, Otsego, and Kalkaska counties. Slippery roads and wet snow accumulation could cause delays, particularly for the morning commute. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution.
By Wednesday, skies clear up with sunny conditions and a high near 34°F. Thursday follows with partly sunny skies and highs reaching 42°F. Rain chances increase Friday morning, with a mix of snow and freezing rain possible by Friday night. Temperatures hover in the low 40s during the day and dip into the 20s overnight.
Saturday and Sunday continue the unsettled pattern, with additional rain and snow mix expected. Daytime highs stay in the upper 30s to low 40s. The weekend may feel more like winter than spring, despite the calendar.
