Gaylord, Michigan – Afternoon thunderstorms could roll across Northern Michigan today, bringing scattered downpours and lightning as temperatures push into the upper 80s. Heat and rising humidity will intensify heading into Friday, with conditions feeling closer to mid-summer than early August.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, isolated to scattered storms are possible late this afternoon and again overnight, especially in inland areas from Cadillac to Alpena. Friday will be the most humid day of the week, with highs from 83–91°F and a continued risk of thunderstorms from mid-morning through early evening.

Localized heavy rain and gusty winds are possible with stronger cells, particularly near Petoskey, Grayling, and Traverse City. Drivers are urged to watch for slick roads and reduced visibility during pop-up storms. Campers and beachgoers should monitor skies and seek shelter at the first sign of thunder.

Storm chances begin to taper off late Friday, but another round of unsettled weather may return by early next week.
