Pellston, Michigan – Penny-sized hail and winds up to 60 mph are pounding parts of Emmet and Cheboygan counties tonight, with a severe thunderstorm expected to move through Pellston, Levering, and Riggsville by 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, the storm was radar-tracked near Pleasant View at 8:58 p.m., pushing north at 30 mph. The system has prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Emmet and west central Cheboygan counties.

Pellston and Levering are in the immediate path, with potential for roof and siding damage and downed trees. Residents are urged to shelter in a sturdy building, away from windows, and to secure outdoor items.

Localized power outages and hazardous travel are possible along US-31 and M-68. Emergency managers advise remaining indoors and staying tuned to local alerts.

This warning remains in effect through 10 p.m. Friday. More storms are possible overnight as the system continues northward.
