Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is facing unseasonably warm and dry conditions today, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue an elevated fire danger alert across much of the region. Temperatures are expected to reach between 74 and 86 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and gusty south winds up to 35 mph.

According to the US National Weather Service in Gaylord, recent dry weather has left vegetation primed for rapid ignition. “Fires could quickly start and spread,” officials warned, urging residents to avoid outdoor burning through the day.

The NWS added that those heading to the Great Lakes beaches should use caution, as strong southerly winds could produce dangerous waves and currents.

Clouds are expected to increase tonight, bringing a chance for scattered showers late, with lows dipping to the upper 50s. Monday will stay warm, though cooler air and better chances for rainfall are forecast to arrive by the middle of the week — a much-needed break from the current dry spell.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local fire conditions and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
