Gaylord, MI – A fresh round of lake effect snow is expected to impact northern Michigan through Monday night, prompting travel advisories across areas near and south of Grand Traverse Bay and into Manistee County. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Gaylord, most areas could receive 2 to 4 inches of accumulation, with localized totals exceeding 6 inches possible along parts of the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Forecasters warn that the heaviest snow will occur between Monday morning and late evening, creating slippery conditions and quick reductions in visibility. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving as snow-covered roads and blowing snow could make travel hazardous, particularly along U.S. 31 and routes closer to the lakeshore.
The snow is expected to gradually diminish by early Tuesday, with lingering flurries possible. Cold temperatures and gusty winds will maintain winter-like conditions across the region before gradual improvement midweek.
Residents are advised to check the latest local forecasts and road conditions before traveling.
