Gaylord, Michigan – Snow showers are already creating slick spots across northern Michigan this morning, with additional bursts expected to reduce visibility and impact the early commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, scattered snow showers and flurries will continue through the morning hours Monday, with temperatures holding between 28 and 36 degrees. Roads across Emmet, Cheboygan, Otsego, and Alpena counties may become briefly snow-covered, especially on untreated stretches of US-131 and M-32.

Conditions shift again late Monday night into Tuesday morning as steadier snow develops across the eastern Upper Peninsula. Areas near Sault Ste. Marie and Drummond Island could pick up around 1 inch or less by daybreak Tuesday, enough to create slick bridges and secondary roads during the morning commute.

Temperatures begin to moderate midweek, climbing into the 40s and even low 50s by Wednesday and Thursday across northern Lower Michigan. That warming trend brings a mix of rain and snow by Wednesday into Thursday, especially along the I-75 corridor from Grayling to Mackinaw City.

Drivers should allow extra time during morning travel, keep headlights on in snow showers, and watch for refreezing overnight as temperatures dip back below freezing.
