Gaylord, Michigan – Roads in Missaukee County could turn icy shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday as freezing rain spreads in, creating slick pavement before the morning commute begins.
According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for Missaukee County. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are expected.
Even a light glaze can quickly coat bridges and overpasses, especially along M-66 and M-55 near Lake City. Side streets, untreated rural roads and parking lots may become hazardous before sunrise. Ice buildup on tree limbs and power lines could also trigger isolated outages during the day.
Drivers should slow down, allow extra braking distance and avoid sudden turns or stops. Keep phones charged and prepare for potential power interruptions if ice thickens on lines.
The most dangerous travel window stretches from pre-dawn through the evening commute Wednesday. The advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., and additional alerts could be issued if icing becomes more widespread.
